- Description:05:06:12 - B01. HRN-3271 In: 05.06.12 Out: 05.07.49 Sound Bite: Patricia Clarkson Um well I think its second nature to him now I think its why actors love working with him. I think its why we live for the moment when Woody Allen calls us up. Uh and because he does understand organically understand what an actor is, what makes acting good, what makes acting great, what makes a character tick, what makes a character funny and what makes them emotional. He just gets it. 05:08:25 - B02. HRN-3271 In: 05.08.25 Out: 05.09.53 Sound Bite: Patricia Clarkson Oh definitely, absolutely, you cant it you know hes a great writer and the characters are so beautifully drawn in ways that are so surprising. I mean Im playing a very classic southern character. You know a certain kind of, theres many the south is much more diverse than people want to believe but I am kind of a classic you know old fashioned republican you know Christian woman with the big hair and the tight skirts, not the dowdies but then you filter that through Woody Allen and it becomes its own thing its just its funny in ways that when I started reading the script it was so surprising, I recognized the character immediately because of having growing up in the South but she took me to a new place and the different a completely different place and she also undergoes some transformation so yeah so youll see, you know she goes on a real journey so um but its a journey that only Woody could write and its funny and theyre paragraphs and theyre profound and witty and 05:09:56 - B03. HRN-3271 In: 05.09.56 Out: 05.10.42 Sound Bite: Patricia Clarkson Yes well I mean I just took some time off. I shot these films all last summer and I just took off 7 months, I havent worked. I just started a new film right now but I took all fall, all the fall because shot the Woody Allen, the Martin Scorsese, and then this beautiful film in Cairo called Cairo Time and then I just, Ive been laying low for the fall, just I was gonna take a break from acting, not that I would ever stop acting, I love it too much, unfortunately. Theres nothing else I know how to do um but uh but I am busy, I am always working, lucky lucky Im gonna knock wood as I, thats me knocking wood, that sound. 05:10:46 - B04. HRN-3271 In: 05.10.46 Out: 05.11.32 Sound Bite: Patricia Clarkson We shot everywhere, all over Cairo. People always say, did you see the pyramids? I say, did we see the pyramids? We shot on the pyramids. I mean did I see, you know the, also the pyramids if youve ever been to Cairo, theyre right there. Its like the shopping mall, oh lets go to the pyramids. Theyre right there but we shot everywhere, all over Cairo, its a gorgeous a beautiful a romantic film and um it stars myself and this wonderful great actor Alexander Siddig and we shot all over Cairo, everywhere so uh its a big its a small, its a big small film. We shot on 35 wide, very very Lawrence of Arabia. 05:11:48 - B05. HRN-3271 In: 05.11.48 Out: 05.12.20 Sound Bite: Patricia Clarkson Well yeah I mean I the gimmicks are fun, we all love to go and see the gimmicks, but thats the beauty of our business. You can have the gimmicks, you can have big large films like we just saw a preview of Katherine Bigelows film and it looked amazing. I mean its unbelievable. I mean its a big film and yet but theres also room for small stories to be told and I think you know our business cannot exist without one or the other and it shouldnt you know. B06. HRN-3271 05:12:37 - In: 05.12.37 Out: 05.13.01 Sound Bite: Patricia Clarkson But its different. Youll see, he does, hes slightly different in this film. Hes different in life than Curb Your Enthusiasm. People think hes absolutely that. hes different and hes different in this film. He alters, you know its Woody Allen and Larry David coming together so its made this great magical mixture. 05:13:15 - B07. HRN-3271 In: 05.13.15 Out: 05.14.11 Sound Bite: Patricia Clarkson Well Ive worked with so many first time, well no Ive worked with many first time filmmakers and Ive had very good luck and so Im hoping, Im about to work with a first time filmmaker on Monday um on a beautiful Horton Foot film and its all just I sit down with them and I know immediately. I know, I just know. First of all Im attracted by the script, or I wouldnt be sitting down with them. And Im interested in the part, the part is gonna take me some new place Ive never been, or its gonna it frightens me, it excites me, it does something to me, it unsettles me in some way and then I sit down with them and Im so lucky that these wonderful first time filmmakers are putting their trust in me to make their first film. 05:14:26 - B08. HRN-3271 In: 05.14.26 Out: 05.15.33 Sound Bite: Patricia Clarkson I love Elle Fanning. I told her mother, you better keep her really close by your side because Im gonna steal her, Im gonna steal her so big. Oh my God, I every day I mean I wake up and Id be like, because I had you know quite a bit, and I had such a relationship with her and the same relationship we had on camera and off, I just adored her. Shes a beautiful, delightful, just unbearable talented little girl and young girl now. Shes not little anymore now, shes growing up, and um and I just I loved working with her and I hope to work with her again, really, I really do with her and um she just she her little gift she gave me at the end of the film I will always treasure. Always. 05:15:55 - B09. HRN-3271 In: 05.15.55 Out: 05.17.27 Sound Bite: Zack Snyder Um its pretty uh its a pretty awesome honor to get this from the theater owners who you know in my mind are sort of the gatekeepers of a shrine that I and my whole life have worshipped at. Um so its pretty cool for them to say, turn to me and say, hey, we think youre awesome. So theres that part that you know I feel honored and I really do say like wow thats cool. In addition to that the other thing I think is really amazing is the fact that we, Ive always said this, its not you know Im here at ShoWest so oh lets talk about the theaters. Ive always said that what we do when we make a movie is we really endeavor to create a cinematic experience, right, um everyone has a 60 inch plasma at home, everyone has like a media room and surround sound and all that stuff, but when we honestly it is our hope that people go and see our movies in a theater where they were designed to be seen. You know when the lights fade in the theater, theres a promise made, theres like a, you know, the theater itself is saying were about to go somewhere, get ready, you know. And its our responsibility as filmmakers to try and fulfill that promise and uh we really try to and to have those guys go and say hey we think youre cool, thats a big deal. 05:17:50 - B10. HRN-3271 In: 05.17.50 Out: 05.19.08 Sound Bite: Zack Snyder Yeah no its difficult because I mean like when we made 300 we really made it, we made Watchmen in the same style, but we really made it in a botiquey way you know like. People are like, oh you know Watchmens a giant 20 million dollar movie with giant special effects and everything, but the truth is its just us making it, its my I make it with my buddy from college and my wifes my producer, its not a uh we really feel like were making it for ourselves, for small group of people and when we made 300 we made it, I just thought it was gonna be for a bunch of fan boys who would think its cool and love Frank Miller, and then you know it just happened to have I think themes and style that people enjoyed and I mean the same thing is interesting with Watchmen you know. My expectations for Watchmen were always like, look, this is a difficult movie, I dont know how many peoples gonna go see this. Um but I know I have to do it a certain way. Theres no other way to make the movie and in that sense you know Ive been really pleased by what weve done at the box office in like what this movie is because its a hard R its 2 hours and 47 minutes long, its you know superheroes like beating the crap out of each other so its kind like you know its rough action but. 05:19:19 - B11. HRN-3271 In: 05.19.19 Out: 05.19.49 Sound Bite: Zack Snyder You know thats just, we knew that was gonna happen and its kind of cool, I find it really interesting and kind of reveals a lot about the culture in a way that Watchmen was supposed to do you know. I think that is cool, to me, the fact that if someone brings that up to me, I go really thats your problem, I mean thats your hang up not mine and I think that a movie can galvanize culture in that way I think is doing its job. 05:20:24 - B12. HRN-3271 In: 05.20.14 Out: 05.20.54 Sound Bite: Michael Caine This movie is a very small British picture and its about a small boy who lives in a nursing old peoples home because his parents own it and he makes the friends of old people, obviously, its the only people he knows, and every time he makes a friend they die. So he goes looking for them with a tape recorder and a camera and a torch in the home, especially in the rooms where they died, and an old magician turns up, me, and he helps him find the spirits of his friends and thats basically what this picture is about. But theres much more to it than that. 05:21:09 - B13. HRN-3271 In: 05.21.09 Out: 05.22.18 Sound Bite: Michael Caine Well making a movie now is the technology is entirely different. Uh um but also the situation, the system is different. It used to be very strong studios with contract actors. Then the actors left the contract and took over the business themselves. And then you have what Ive just done is very strong independent movie production. I mean Slumdog Millionaire just won the Academy Award. That was independent. Is Anybody There? Was an independent picture and Ive just finished one called Harry Brown. Again this is a small independent picture now. Usually in the old days you used to make a little small independent picture and no one would ever see it. (talks) Its a really really good movie and I know I have to say that, Im not gonna tell you its a bad movie. I mean Ill tell you how good it is, its a very small British picture, it only has me in it as any name, and American distributors picked it up and are releasing it so it must have some quality I think. 05:22:25 - B14. HRN-3271 In: 05.22.25 Out: 05.22.40 Sound Bite: Michael Caine Oh yeah because Ive got all these young people who know who I am now and Im Alfred. I used to be to everybody I used to be Alfie, now Im Alfred, so Im a bit more dignified as I got older. 05:22:52 - B15. HRN-3271 In: 05.22.52 Out: 05.23.40 Sound Bite: Michael Caine Well youre looking for something different than anything youve done and I look for something that tests me as an actor, otherwise Im bored. I dont want to do the same thing over and over again. And that was why I took this picture, and it also has to have an emotional effect. I mean on this movie, this particular script was sent to me by David Hayman who makes the Harry Potter pictures and I was reading the script and I stopped half-way through because I was crying and I rang him, I said Ill do it. He said, did you like the script? I said well I havent finished it yet. He said, well how do you know you want to do it? I said no Im crying and I just called you, and then I finished it and I knew I wanted to do it because it got better and better but it was a wonderful script and I just had to do it. 05:24:08 - B16. HRN-3271 In: 05.24.08 Out: 05.24.26 Sound Bite: Leah Pipes, Margo Harshman, Audrina Patridge Leah So much fun. Just a ridiculous amount of fun. Margo Too much? Leah Too much. I mean some days it was like this Im having too much fun. Margo This is supposed to be work. Audrina Yeah I almost wish I was in a sorority. Margo Yeah wasnt this awesome. 05:24:35 - B17. HRN-3271 In: 05.24.35 Out: 05.24.50 Sound Bite: Leah Pipes, Margo Harshman, Audrina Patridge Audrina Yeah the first night I actually arrived um we all went salsa dancing and bonded having a great time. Leah And salsa dancing with Briana Evigan really makes you realize what a bad dancer you are. 05:25:23 - B18. HRN-3271 In: 05.25.23 Out: 05.25.42 Sound Bite: Leah Pipes, Margo Harshman, Audrina Patridge Audrina Its an honor to be here and to be you know receiving this award just because so many great actresses and actors have received this award so. Margo And just meeting the people who own the places you go to you know escape reality or just watch an awesome movie, its really interesting, its really cool. 05:25:50 - B19. HRN-3271 In: 05.25.50 Out: 05.26.11 Sound Bite: Leah Pipes, Margo Harshman, Audrina Patridge Audrina Oh Star Trek with Chris Pine Im really excited to see that. Leah Im excited to see Adventureland. Is that coming out, thats coming out this summer, right? That looks funny, I love those kinds of movies. Margo Wolverine. Dude, that looks sick. Audrina Thats gonna be a good one. 05:26:35 - B20. HRN-3271 In: 05.26.35 Out: 05.27.18 Sound Bite: Leah Pipes, Margo Harshman, Audrina Patridge Leah Working with women who are amazing actresses and diligent workers and incredible people. Audrina Exactly and you know it was cool because it was 6 girls and we all got along, we all helped each other out, kept each other warm, because we filmed in Pittsburgh and it was freezing cold. Leah Freezing cold. (talks) Margo In the fall. And then into the winter. We got to see the leaves change, which was beautiful. Leah And the snow for the first time which was beautiful. Freezing but beautiful. Audrina And just experiencing all the blood and gore and just like being involved in that you know. 05:27:20 - B21. HRN-3271 In: 05.27.20 Out: 05.27.44 Sound Bite: Leah Pipes, Margo Harshman, Audrina Patridge Audrina At one point I was covered in gooey like blood until the sun came up so its like 4 in the morning you know were all outside, 20 degree weather in lingerie and you know pretending like Im you know dying of this its something that I will never forget, ever. 05:28:05 - B22. HRN-3271 In: 05.28.05 Out: 05.28.42 Sound Bite: Rumer Willis, Jamie Chung, Briana Evigan Evigan Well I can tell you because I didnt know anything about sororities before I started this movie, this one filled me in a bit with just little tips, but um Willis Snap Evigan A little snapping tips, clapping. Chung You know what sororities really are, its actually great organization and it has so much tradition and secret ceremonies and so much history that goes on when some of these really old sororities like Kappa Kappa Gamma, Gamma Phi Beta, but I feel like what we all brought to this was the experience of real bonding and real sisterhood and real friendship so it kind of just came naturally. 05:28:50 - B23. HRN-3271 In: 05.28.50 Out: 05.29.20 Sound Bite: Rumer Willis, Jamie Chung, Briana Evigan Evigan Well we had this restaurant that we loved called Ceviche and um Monday nights was salsa night Willis And they had these people who are Evigan Really good salsa dancers, yeah. Willis So they kind of just pull you up there Evigan And you just go with it. yeah you just go with it. Chung Its our unofficial uh what is it called, initiation, so would you like to salsa dance? Its a solo salsa dance, and you can join us. Evigan No? {laughs} 05:29:37 - B24. HRN-3271 In: 05.29.37 Out: 05.30.29 Sound Bite: Rumer Willis, Jamie Chung, Briana Evigan Evigan You know I never feel that way. Its hard when youre standing out in the cold but I think thats part of the job. Willis It only adds to it I think. Chung Oh screw that. (talks) Foam, will not work with it ever again. Foam, its this chemical foam, it tastes awful, but it like it stays bubbly all the time. Willis It you know we could fill the room up. Chung But it tastes disgusting. Evigan But you know what I think is that is part of your job and for all the easy parts that you do get to go through in 2 or 3 months of shooting, the hard ones really are only a couple days and Chung Touche. Evigan Im grateful about it yeah. Willis It adds. If youre in a situation having to do with a scene thats very emotional, I think if youre uncomfortable Evigan Its harder. Chung it adds to it. Evigan Like standing out in the cold in the weather in lingerie wasnt fun Chung But it added to the fact that we were all working experience. Evigan Yeah it was totally worth it. 05:30:35 - B25. HRN-3271 In: 05.30.35 Out: 05.30.56 Sound Bite: Rumer Willis, Jamie Chung, Briana Evigan Chung Absolutely. I think thats the one true thing that I cherish the most. I mean this awards great, its fantastic, thank you very much. It is an honor, but really to the friendships Ive made. Evigan And really to the fact that we got to come here together, all 6 of us and have fun together and support each other. Chung I mean this is a major plus. Its such a bonus. 05:31:08 - B26. HRN-3271 In: 05.31.08 Out: 05.31.27 Sound Bite: Rumer Willis, Jamie Chung, Briana Evigan Evigan And todays a great way to show some of the potential future actors and actresses and directors will be. Chung And times like this I feel like going to the movies and a great way to bond with your family and your friends. Evigan Definitely. Chung And its a great way to escape. Evigan Its awesome. 05:31:35 - B27. HRN-3271 In: 05.31.35 Out: 05.31.49 Sound Bite: Rumer Willis, Jamie Chung, Briana Evigan Chung Oh man, Star Trek and Wolverine. Evigan Of course, Star Trek, yeah. Willis And Astroboy, I really wanna see Astroboy. I do. It looks cool. 05:32:11 - B28. HRN-3271 In: 05.32.11 Out: 05.32.48 Sound Bite: Dennis Quaid Yeah and this is one of them, you know, it really is. Its already got such cache from the culture, its so deep in the culture it means different things to GI Joe means different things to different generations and uh just really a lot of fun to do, it really was. You know its you know its a cartoon, its also but this is a huge action movie and really great out of this world characters and uh its great to be part of it. 05:33:21 - B29. HRN-3271 In: 05.33.21 Out: 05.33.58 Sound Bite: Zac Efron Um yeah you know I keep my eyes open at all times but um theres a level of excitement. Ive got a fantastic fanbase that um you know is you know over supportive if anything, always there and always excited for new ideas, new movies. Not a lot of people can say that at this point and Im enjoying it. I just wanna perform and uh hopefully this year I can be their breakthrough performer of the year. 05:34:25 - B30. HRN-3271 In: 05.34.25 Out: 05.35.04 Sound Bite: Michael Bay I dont know if Im really a 3D believer right now. Yeah really. So um well see. Maybe its a gimmick, I dont know. I dont think 3Ds for everything. (talks) Technology, I respect technology I always push technology in my movies. Uh and youve gotta make it the greatest theater going experience that you can do in terms of sound and projection and the IMAX experience is something I think should be expanded into more movies I mean with Transformers we did 3 IMAX scenes, full IMAX scenes, shot in IMAX, um so I dont know.
