- Description:02:35:49 - A01. HRN-722 In: 02.35.49 Out: 02.36.18 Sound Bite: Martin Campbell Well it seems to be (talks) No they offered me other Bonds after I finished Gold Eye, I didnt want to do them simply because I felt like I would be repeating myself. And they finally after Die Another Day felt you know Bond had got so fantastical that it needed to come back to earth so they had the rights to Casino Royale the book, theyd only just got the rights. So it was the perfect opportunity to introduce a new Bond, go back to basics. 02:36:19 - A02. HRN-722 In: 02.36.19 Out: 02.36.47 Sound Bite: Martin Campbell Well if you remember there was an American film I forget what studio made it called Casino Royale with five different Bonds, Peter Sellers played the lead part in that. Everybody from Orson Wells, Ursula Andress, David Niven they were all in it and it was such a disaster that I guess the rights were held on by, the studio held the rights. It finally became available in 200 I think and thats when the Broccolis picked it up. So it was the last book. 02:36:51 - A03. HRN-722 In: 02.36.51 Out: 02.37.07 Sound Bite: Martin Campbell I was part of casting, we tested a lot of actors as with Pierce. The same process is you twiddle down your list, you test say eight actors I think it was in this, in this case and then you make your decision. 02:37:26 - A04. HRN-722 In: 02.37.26 Out: 02.37.53 Sound Bite: Martin Campbell No you do think about it long and hard because god help you should make the wrong decision I mean you would be you would be attacked on the streets I think if you did that. Well Ive been very lucky of course Piece was obviously perfect for that style of Bond, Daniel I think is completely embraced this style of Bond if you will the more realistic more humane Bond and so Ive been lucky in both cases. 02:38:13 - A05. HRN-722 In: 02.38.13 Out: 02.38.46 Sound Bite: Martin Campbell Well the point is that with the book if you realize was if youve read the book I dont know if you have but it was his first mission you know hes very rough around the edges, he doesnt come Bond until the end of the book and a lot of the influence on his character is to who he becomes. Of course as his relationship with Vesper Lynd whos probably the most important Bond girl, I hate using that expression because shes typically not a Bond girl. But that relationship accentually is what forges him to become James Bond. 02:39:01 - A06. HRN-722 In: 02.39.01 Out: 02.39.37 Sound Bite: Martin Campbell Well no actually what we did was shoot down a few sacred cows and farm this time you know the know the classic and of course the shaken and stirred line there was also the recipe for the martini which if you drink it youll be flat on your back if you actually do it. And how he gets the acid martin, the old acid martin there was that in it, so there were one or two moments in the movie where we could put our tongue slightly on our cheek and say shoot down a few of the old you know the Bond sacred cows.
