- Title: Equinox: 21St Century Jet
- Date: 15th November 1992
- Summary: During 1992,a new design of Boeing, the 777,moved from the `drawing board' towards the assembly line. The 777 is the largest and most complex aircraft to be designed entirely electronically, using a new computer design system called CATIA. This programme is part of a four-year observational study following the progress of the aircraft through until the first fare-paying passenger flight scheduled for 1995. A whole 777 is tested to destruction by snapping its wings in an attempt to measure how strong a force the wings can withstand. Over a hundred million dollars is transferred from United Airline's bank account to Boeing's for the completion of the plane. 21st Century Jet concludes with the Boeing 777's inaugral flight as it joins the world's fleet of airliners and becomes 'just another plane'.
