- Description:The strange people who inhabit the weird world of British sitcom. From the real Basil Fawlty, a Torquay hotelier who rides a rickshaw and threatens his guests with a sabre, to the obsessive fans who own Reliant Robins and dress like TV characters. 24.4 million people tuned into the Christmas edition of OnlyFools and Horses, the highest audience figure of any programme in the UK. That's a lot of viewers. Lovely Jubbly is a half hour documentary about the jetsam & flotsam that is thrown up by the tidal wave that is British situation comedy. In this half hour celebration of the genre, we get to the bottom of this country's obsession with making ourselves laugh. We trawl the country for the ordinary people who have been most affected by the classic TV comedy, and prove that fact is stranger and funnier than fiction. This is the story of Britain's television eccentrics, obsessives whose lives have been taken over by their love of or similarity to the sit-com. A collection of tales that are comic and tragic, an audit of the people whose lives would be incomplete without a daily dose of The Young Ones or an episode of Only Fools and Horses. 'Lovely Jubbly' is an observation of the people who prove there's 'nowt so queer as folk'. Acting Commander in Chief Jack Wheeler, is arranging a coach trip with 40 others, to visit all the Norfolk locations Dad's Army filmed at. Perry from South London, is the boss of the Only Fools and Horses fan club, head of an 800 member empire, he and his closest allies are out to lobby for Peckham's finest return to the screen. Edmund Wells and John Roe are the spit of Basil Fawlty and Sue Bradbury's has found a little fame as Patsy. We follow them as they look for and alternatively hide from, small time fame. In addition to these characters we will also follow a host of other people obsessed with everyone from Father Ted to Hyacinth Bucket. This entertaining and at times tragic half hour, aims to not only observe the antics of Perry, Jack and Sue, but also get to the root of an obsession this country has with the adoration of the underdog and love of the looser. We explore, through the lives of the most dedicated fans and obsessives, Britain's nature to identify and laugh with the losers in life. The way we triumph the antics of dysfunctional heroes, such as Basil Fawlty, Del Boy and Edina. This observational documentary will weave together the stories of 6 people whose common denominator is the sit com. The narrative follows our punters attempting to fulfil an objective, whether it's to locate copies of the 5 erased Dad's Army tapes or pilgrimage to Peckham for a market day. Lovely Jubbly is a celebration of sit comedies greatest eccentrics, a robust, full of laughs, plain old funny presentation of the UK as an island of sitcom absurdities.
