- Title: Jutland: Clash Of The Dreadnoughts
- Date: 7th February 2004
- Summary: The Battle of Jutland was the only clash of the massed British and German battle fleets during the First World War, and the largest battleship conflict of all time. The fleets met on 31st May 1916 - by the following evening over 6,000 British lives had been lost, while German losses stood at just 2,500, even though the Royal Navy enjoyed numerical and technological superiority. Down the years, controversy has raged as to who won the battle and why British losses were so very high. In the heart of the fighting Admiral Beatty uttered the famous sentence "There's something wrong with our bloody ships today." An international team of divers and marine historians dive the five most significant wrecks from the engagement to determine exactly what was wrong with those "bloody" ships. They examine the wrecks of the Queen Mary, the Defence, the Invincible and the Lutzow, making new discoveries at the bottom of the sea that challenge witness reports from the day of the battle; and work out why the mighty British Dreadnoughts had become accidents waiting to happen.
