- Title: BAFTA Film Awards 2016: Stephen Fry closing speech
- Date: 14th February 2016
- Summary: British Academy Film Awards 2016
- Description: Stephen Fry closing monologue at the British Academy Film Awards, held at the Royal Opera House in London, U.K. on 14 February, 2016 // - Woody Allen said 'I don't want to achieve immortality through my work I want to achieve it through not dying', if only that could be, maybe it's a function of ageing but every time there is what's called an obit package, showing those in the film business who have died over the course of the year it seems that each year death's sickle has mown and felled a greater number than before, perhaps it should be a consolation that no matter how much we lament the passing of our heros, film endures where we don't, generations yet unborn will enjoy the work of those we have lost, film is forever, film defies death, shakes a fist at it, and with that in mind I'm going off now to hasten my own demise by eating and drinking like a wild revelling warthog (laughter) who knows no shame and no table manners, and I suggest that you do the same, I'll see you at the trough, goodnight.... (applause)
