- Summary: Hes Just Not That Into You / Ken Kwapis: Hes Just Not That Into You Junket Ken Kwapis Interview
- Description:14:35:28 - Sound Bite: Ken Kwapis the A-list cast It still amazes me that so many big stars stepped up to be in the picture, but I know why they did and the reason is that each of the 9 leading characters gave these actors an opportunity to express something really personal and I think whether its Jennifer Aniston, Ben Affleck, Ginni Goodwin, any of them, I felt like they all, the parts gave them a chance to say something personable about life and love and rejection and hope. 14:36:09 - Sound Bite: Ken Kwapis did the actors choose the roles I think that actually everyone sort of owned their role. For instance Ginnifer Goodwin came in and met with me and basically said, I am Gigi, and we didnt read a scene or anything, we just talked about Gigi and it was just so clear that she literally owned the part, she walked in, it was hers. I mean there was no question about it. I dont think she couldve played any other role. By the way, there were a lot of big actresses who wanted to play that role, but Ginni has this perfect ability to be a real train wreck of a character, to really do things that are embarrassing, almost pathetic and yet you still love her. 14:36:56 - Sound Bite: Ken Kwapis on Aniston Jennifer Aniston is so perfect in this and one of the things that was a wonderful surprise was the great chemistry that she and Ben Affleck have together. They did not know each other, they never worked before, and it was I felt like when people see them together it feels like theyve lived together for seven years like their characters. Now they have such a wonderful living quality on screen, such an easy rapport, such a kind of Tracy and Hepburn kind of you know naturalness together, and all the more exciting then when they have some tough and emotional scenes together, I felt like Jennifer came from such a good and strong and personal place with those scenes and delivered a very raw performance, I just couldnt be happier with what she did. 14:37:58 - Sound Bite: Ken Kwapis on Affleck It was also great to work with Ben. I love Ben Affleck and this is the first work hed done as an actor since the film Hollywoodland, so its a long stretch in between pictures because in the meantime of course he spent a lot of time and energy directing his first film Gone Baby Gone, so what I loved about Bens work, excuse me, what I loved about Bens work was that you could really see you know how seasoned hes become, how hes brought all of his life experiences there on the performance and theres a certain maturity and solidness about it that I find really appealing. 14:38:37 - Sound Bite: Ken Kwapis Drew and her producing partner Nancy Juvonen developed the script from the book and the script was pretty much finished when they invited me to take a look at it and I think that Drew and Nancy Junvonen were in part attracted to me because of the work Id done on the film Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and ensemble story thats very female driven, and also the work that I did on the television show The Office. 14:39:07 - Sound Bite: Ken Kwapis on The Office Oh well okay, yes, no I directed a 2-part uh episode of The Office which I think maybe a first for the show. Part 1 airs on Thursday, February 5th. Part 2 airs the following Thursday, the 12th. The title of the episode is Lecture Circuit and its an outstanding story and it actually neatly frames the opening weekend of Hes Just Not That Into You and Im also happy to say that in April I have the privilege of directing the 100th episode of the show. Weve reached that milestone this year.
