So uh Steven and I are two candidates. Its very nice, its nice to get an award, its funny cause i used to get awards for really inappropriate behavior and now Im getting awards for appropriate behavior so Im confused. 01:09:28 - Sound Bite: Alice Cooper on rock being vulnerable to drugs Because its a party, its a constant party, theres never one serious moment you know when youre on tour its a party, when your in the studio its a party when youre at a party its a party, you know what I mean when youre at home its a party, its a continuous party and if youre a drinker you can go from a drinker to an alcoholic pretty easy you just switch that gear and all of a sudden youre there. Some guys dont have to go there, I did, I have a very addictive personality so I was stuck with it you know. When I first had my first beer I didnt know I was an alcoholic, I mean I just thought it was one of the guys didnt realize that that beer was a trigger, that for 34 years that I was still going to be drinking. 01:10:39 - B-Roll Alice Cooper holding up his album cover, Steven Tyler talking to press, Alice Cooper, Alice Coopers boots, Steven Tyler, cu of Steven Tylers Jewelry 01:13:51 - Sound Bite: Steven Tyler *** Red Carpet Round Up I dont go reaching, (talks) I dont go reaching for no young kids. No you know what it is the songs is they live forever and the meaning and the feeling you get from them and you look in the audience and theres 9 year old kids and theres 90 year old kids and I dont know its just crazy to me, it freaks me out (talks) Oh my god we were just in Russia, we did Sweden, we did uhm Dubai and Mumbai India and I looked out and I couldnt believe it, its like 3 year old kids and 12 yr old kids and 30 yr old kids and 40 yr old kids and they all knew the lyrics, its great. 01:14:49 - B-Roll Steven Tyler, Steven Tyler with Alice Cooper and Robin Zander 01:15:38 - Sound Bite: Chester Bennington on event Uh were here tonight to pay homage to Alice Cooper uhm and uh Map which is really important, I think thats really, thats really the main draw here tonight is is Map and MusicCares and its, its uh its interesting because theres so many artists that are uh addicted and alcoholics and its cool to kind of celebrate being sober. 01:16:14 - Sound Bite: Chester Bennington Alice being an influence Yeah actually you know he always, I never got to see his shows cause I was a little to young when he was touring a lot but uhm you know Ive seen a lot of video footage and listened to his music and hes from phoenix as well so its kind of like pretty cool to share that with Alice you know what I mean. Uhm hes defiantly an influence on me and Slash obviously. 01:17:06 - B-Roll - Chester Bennington, MusiCares logo 01:17:48 - B-Roll coming up 01:19:40 - Sound Bite: Blind Melon on substance abuse Brad Smith- well I dont know what endemic means first (talks) I play bass I play four strings for blind melon. Rogers Stevens I think you know uh people rock and roll attracts sort of unhinged type personality a lot of the times and I think the greatest temperaments sometimes can be unstable and who knows. Yeah theres a lot of escape, yeah theres a lot of freedom in the life style I suppose and uh some people take it too far. Christopher Thorn I think it affects a lot of people but were just you know because were out there were talking to people, were doing interviews we talk about substance abuse but there are plenty of construction workers who are dealing with it too so were just you know people are asking about it so (talks) Brad Smith Youre striking a cord with us though. Travis Warren I was gonna say that I think that its for bands its a high, its a high to get up on stage, its a high to do this whole thing and I think you know musicians or artists want to maintain that always and I think its very easy to fall into you know. Glen Graham Yeah not to mention the fact that uh you know musicians have a tremendous amount of time on their hands. Rogers Stevens And a lot of people make it readily available when youre on the road so you have to be careful. 01:21:36 - Sound Bite: Wayne Kramer on music today How long do we got? Uhm of course the big thing is how we consume music today we dont buy pieces of plastic that we take home and put in a machine anymore thats the main thing, the delivery system, music is alive and well you know there are creative people doing all kinds of wonderful stuff, theyre not, youre not going to hear about it from record companies in fact Im not sure there are record companies anymore I think thats something that used to be but you can find it you know on the internet you can download it and I think were were on the verge on a nice creative period because the powers gone back to the artist side and not to the accountants and bean counters and corporate chiefs you know for a while they held the reigns and strangled the life out of you so. 01:22:50 - Sound Bite: Wayne Kramer I would beg to differ with my dear brother Elliott (talks) I think the communal experience is much larger now and its a virtual community you know people, somebody in Russia could be downloading you know a crazy new band from Silver Lake and I could be downloading them too and we both hear that music and we both like it we are a community you know and its much bigger now. Its different, Elliotts right its a different sense of the community but there is a community and I think its a much larger and ultimately more powerful community. 01:23:51 - B-Roll Blind Melon, shot of theatre 01:25:34 - B-Roll Anthony Kiedis 01:25:49 - B-Roll - Anthony Kiedis 01:28:48 - Sound Bite: Anthony Kiedis I dont know that it is, I think it appears that way, I think human beings are vulnerable to substance abuse I mean life is tough and were always looking for little short cuts to make it easier and some of us are constitutionally different than others some people drink and it takes the pressure off and takes the edge off and theres no problem. Other people start drinking and using to take that edge off and they have a bad reaction to it and it ends up being a bigger problem then the other problem. So I I understand why people are attracted to being loaded uhm I dont think its not necessarily rock and roll that has a bigger problem then other walks of life its just were a little more in the lime light perhaps. 01:30:34 - B-Roll - Anthony Kiedis, guy getting out of limo, white guy short blonde hair talking, MusiCares Logo, traffic b-roll 01:34:52 - B-Roll MusiCares on theatre sign, rock stars on red carpet, capital records 01:36:25 - Sound Bite: Tommy Davidson ***Red Carpet Round Up Making chicks scream first of all hey you see that hahahaha. 01:37:51 - B-Roll Slash with wife Perla Ferrar
