- Description:00:00:11 - B-Roll Beowulf Premiere John Malkovich talking to reporters 00:00:41 - Sound Bite Roger Avery Talking about writing the screenplay. You know, Ive been working on this material for about twenty-five years now. And, you know, since I was given the book in high school. And I sat down with Neil about ten years ago, actually ten years ago in May, we sat down to write this script. Neil has a really impressive background in Medievalism, and uh a really deep understanding of myth and tradition. I as well grew up, you know, reading uh the Norse epics and the uh you know uh the Authurian legends, and so, you know, it was really a matter of uh um putting ourselves into the mindset of the time period and then just trying to extrapolate what you know what it whatve been like back then for, you know, what pop culture would have been like in you know five forty AD. It was really, it wasnt too different than uh writing Pulp Fiction with Quentin and trying to come up with you know what how gangsters speak, which is, you know, maybe not exactly how gangsters speak , but uh, close enough, so 00:01:55 - Sound Bite Crispin Glover Speaking in old English. Uh well Im speaking old English, and they feel that they they know pretty well what is that the uh the sound of the old English was because it was uh phonetically written at the time, and uh so, this was uh, I had coincidentally listened to a uh the uh an excellent uh lecture series on the history of the English language and uh so I had that sound in my head and uh I was glad, I am glad a part of a part of the film. And I have been uh I have been uh you know touring with my own films and Im opening the sequel to my first film at the same time that this is opening. People can find out where Im gonna be at Crispin Glover dot com.
