- Description:11:08:00 - A01. HRN-1576 In: 11.08.00 Out: 11.10.02 Sound Bite: Alison Eastwood on going from producer to director Well something fell out of the sky and knocked me on the head and uh when I woke up I decided I was going to direct uhm no I just, I just I really fell in love with the the story and the script and I had it for a couple years and worked on it with a writer and I just I started driving, Id be driving and Id just have all these kind of ideas and visions for how I saw the film and how I felt the story should be told and you know I just, it kind of became very infused in me I felt, I almost felt like I had to be the person to tell this story it was almost a necessity and somewhat of an obsession after a while. Which believe me I wasnt, I wasnt wanting to direct unless I felt that way which I hadnt about anything else before so. (talks) I dont know you know I think subconsciously I had kind of really not to go there as far as the directing (talks) just because the following in the footsteps and the very natural oh ok well your dad was an actor and now hes directing and now youre an actor and are you going to direct. I always knew I wanted to be involved in films whether it was acting or producing but I thought producing would be more interesting on my for me personally because I liked developing things, I like developing things from like maybe just an article or a raw kind of rough script or a book uhm and I knew that directing was such a huge responsibility and I tend to be a little lazy so I was thinking I dont know if I could do that thats a lot of responsibility but after having this, this was just the thing that I really felt that you know I had a vision for and that I had to do. 11:10:05 - A02. HRN-1576 In: 11.10.05 Out: 11.11.12 Sound Bite: Alison Eastwood Everything you know growing up on the sets and watching him work I mean he makes it look easy and you know which is kind of funny cause its not but uhm but very kind of laid back and very calm and he keeps a very kind of efficiently run set which you know a lot of the times can be extremely chaotic. Uhm but uhm yeah I mean pretty much a lot of the experiences as an actor you know its just a huge responsibility and theyre there all the time you know the actors even though you have a tremendous responsibility you have a lot of down time, you have time to relax, you have time to work on things you know you can take a nap or get something to eat or kind of you know whenever they dont need you you go to the trailer hang around, talk to other actors and as a director I mean youre just inundated 24/7 and you know (talks) yeah exactly and when that lines through theres another line that behind that line and they want to know what to do and whats going on as well so. 11:11:20 - A03. HRN-1576 In: 11.11.20 Out: 11.12.24 Sound Bite: Alison Eastwood I dont know necessarily coincidence but its defiantly uhm I had never met them on Mystic River but they obviously came highly recommended uhm but they both read the script and and both really responded to it and uh let me know, or not let me know let there representation know that they both really liked the project and wanted to talk to me and I called them up and talk to them individually and they both were really passionate about it, they both really liked the characters and the story and the journeys that they have in the script and you know one thing kind of led to another and obviously when it came to that moment of really casting my dad said look you gotta surround yourself with really good people and you couldnt ask yourself for two better people to work with for your first film and I felt terribly lucky and blessed that they wanted to do it and work with a first time director.
