- Summary: We Own The Night: We Own the Night Junket Joaquin Phoenix Interview
- Description:00:00:29 - Sound Bite: Joaquin Phoenix relating to character Uhm I, well first of all I never really try, its funny cause you get asked this question all the time I never ever tried to relate my experience to a character I mean I think that its the opposite of that youre trying to take on a whole other set of experience of ways that a character reacts to a situation and I think that its a mistake ever to say how would I react to this situation uhm the question is how does he react to the situation and you get that answer by hopefully by taking to the director and or doing research or the combination of those two things. So right there its just, its never its, thats kind of the last question I ask myself because I think the whole point is to to lose yourself and your behaviors. 00:01:40 - Sound Bite: Joaquin Phoenix dealing with getting lost in character Uhm I was probably just trying to make it sound like that I worked harder than I really was when I said that uhm because the truth is its not, I mean its as taxing as any job is on anyone you know its not, its not particularly difficult in some sense and I think also I think after you after you work enough uhm some things become easier in a sense, its not that they become easier you just grow accustom to them you know you just grow accustom to uhm abandoning if you will a certain part of your life uhm and trying to take on uh facets of another life. 00:02:40 - Sound Bite: Joaquin Phoenix on having director as writer Well of course from that I think theres a difference between dispassionate and not writing something I mean I think that you know every director has to own the material and whether they actually wrote it from the beginning or not, I know every director that Ive worked with at some point they know the story backwards and forwards and you know everybody has to kind of own there part but there is, theres a real value in being able to uhm spend time with the writer and director months leading up to the actual shooting to be able to talk about the various ideas because if you, lets say for example you talk to a director that didnt write it well you both are going to be trying to invent the history of the character whereas if if the director is the writer he might have already started kind of establishing some of that history where its based on something kind of specific for them. I think thats what its always about as an actor, trying to find uhm what its specifically is. You cant apply uhm, the uh uh just any generic action to the situation. It has to be some very specific and detailed for that character and I think that its it can be a value to have the writer and director.
