Once entangled with the social work bureaucracy, she finds it difficult to break free. LADYBIRD, LADYBIRD is an emotional and harrowing sotry of a woman's fight to keep her children and her relationship intact. Following the success of RIFF RAFF and RAINING STONES, LADYBIRD, LADYBIRD is a complete change of pace for Ken Loach, more reminiscent of his earlier memorable dramas CATHY COME HOME and FAMILY LIFE. Shot on location in West London it brings together many of the team who worked on RIFF RAFF and RAINING STONES - cameraman Barry Ackroyd, designer Martin Johnson, editor Jonathan Morris and producer Sally Hibbin. The music is composed by George Fenton. LADYBIRD, LADYBIRD is scriptwriter Rona Monro's first feature. From Edinburgh, she has earned a reputation writing episodes of TV series like CASUALTY. She won the Evening Standard Most Promising Playwright Award in 1991 for her play BOLD GIRLS, about IRA wives. She did a lot of research for LADYBIRD, LADYBIRD, determined to create a story which looks at the real moral dilemmas behind the social services which work with "problem" families. While the story is seen very much through Maggie's eyes, its strength is its ability to see the conflicts from the perspective of all those involved. LADYBIRD, LADYBIRD is a Parallax Pictures production for Film Four International. .......................................................
