Description:A 17th Century that wiped out the heart of Europe's largest city in a single night. What really happened ? How did the inhabitants cope ? The programme uses rich testimonies of witnesses, both well-known and unfamiliar, alongside expert reconstructions by modern forensic and fire experts to explain just how the conflagration began and took hold. Aid workers with experience of contemporary disasters will explore how 17th Century Londoners responded to the destruction of their city and reconstruct the huge tented refugee centre erected at Hampton Court to accomodate burnt out citizens.
