- Title: Dispatches: Putin: Dying For The President: Rushes Compilation:
- Date: 9th March 2000
- Description:Rushes compiled from Channel 4 programme 'Putin: Dying for the President'. Dispatches reporter John Sweeney examines Russia's acting President Vladimir Putin and reveals Russia's worst war crime in Chechnya. Going behind the lines in Chechnya he investigates reports of a civilian massacre by Russian troops and is the first journalist to reach Katyr Yurt, where 363 villagers were killed when a clearly marked civilian convoy was bombed by Russian planes. Sweeney finds witnesses to the atrocity and physical evidence in the form of burnt-out cars, the remains of Russian 'vacuum' bombs (their use against civilians banned by the Geneva Convention) and scarred children lying in hospital beds. The following rushes are mainly stockshots of Moscow including the Kremlin,Ingushetia and Chechnya. They also show the memorial to victims of attacks on Moscow flats, generic images of ordinary life including good shots of people on an ice-rink,life in a Chechen refugee camp and the aftermath of the bombing campaign in Katyr Yurt.
