GEORGE AND THE OLD LADY ARE SEATED BEFORE THE PAINTING REMINISCING OVER A POT OF TEA IN THE ART GALLERY. MR SMELLY AND THE SHEEP ARE EAVESDROPPING ON THEIR CONVERSATION. IT IS THE OLD LADY'S TURN TO SPEAK OF AN ADMIRER FROM HER RUSSIAN PAST. SHE TELLS THE STORY OF A VAGABOND VIOLINIST IN A GREEN COAT WHO ONE DAY DISAPPEARED FROM HER VILLAGE, LEAVING ONLY HIS VIOLIN BEHIND. A MATCHBOX SELLER FOUND THE VIOLIN AND WHEN HE TOUCHED IT HE FOUND HE COULD PLAY. HE WAS BEWITCHED AND SOON FORGOT HIS BELOVED FLOWERGIRL. HE BECAME FAMOUS BUT AT HIS MOST PRESTIGIOUS CONCERT, THE GREEN VIOLINIST APPEARED TO RECLAIM HIS VIOLIN. THE MATCHBO X SELLER COULD NO LONGER PLAY AND LEFT IN DISGRACE. HIS BETROTHED, THE FLOWERGIRL, HOWEVER, WAS WAITING FOR HIM AND THEY RETURNED TO THEIR SIMPLE LIFE, CONTENT.
