- Summary: 1956.Summer.Sylvia Berry, a pretty usherette at local cinema is bored by newsreel on civil defense. A group of military men in civvies are monitoring Soviet Union movement, translating and interpreting Russian information. Private Hopper desperate to be demobbed escapes by dreaming about music, imagining them all performing. Major Hedges is bored, Lt. Col Bernwood officious.A new recruit Private Francis makes a disastrous entrance. He's late and reports to the wrong person. Francis is punished by the tough Lance Corporal Berry. Hopper amusedly watches as Francis introduced to everyone and grilled by language officer Major Church. Hopper puts Francis in his music fantasies. Sylvia in cinema is propositioned. Francis goes to Aunt Vickie and Uncle Fred who he's lodging with in Fulham. Sylvia Berry is the up stairs tenant. Francis is bewitched. Aggro between her and Aunt Vickie. Later he hears violent argument upstairs - realises Corporal Berry is Sylvia's husband. AWARDS PRIX EUROPA. Lipstick received the Television Programme of the Year Award for Drama Series / Serials. RTS DESIGN AWARDS 1993. Lipstick received the Design Team Award. It was also nominated for make-up.
