Summary:Biological warfare is outlawed by international treaty. Yet research into ways of defending against biological warfare is still carried out by the Ministry of Defence Research Establishment at Porton Down. Dispatches demonstrates how rese arch into defensive systems could actually be used for the manufacture of biological weapons and also reports that much of this research is now being carried out in university labs. The government squeeze on finance from the research councils has forced university scientists to look for new funding sources. Dispatches also features the only scientist in Britain so far to resign her university post rather than work on MoD funded research.
