Summary:Kim Lu Anh was raped for nine days by Thai pirates when she escaped Vietnam by sea. She was lucky. Thirty three others on her boat were murdered by the pirates. Now Kim is locked up in a squalid refugee camp in Thailand. Her mother endures poverty in Vietnam and dreams of being reunited with Kim in America. The pirates too are victims, poverty stricken fishermen they are driven by desperation to mercilessly attack the Boat People, and many of them are now standing trial for their crimes.
