- Title: The Philosophers - Spinoza
- Date: 13th July 1994
- Summary: SPINOZA Born in 17th century Amsterdam to a family of Jewish refugees from Portugal, at a time when Europe was in turmoil -The Dutch Republic and the English Commonwealth had polarised the entire continent - Spinoza became one of the greatest philosophers of all time. His scepticism enraged the Jewish elders and led to his ex-communication. In his writings, Spinoza challenged religious and political orthodoxy and was despised by religious fanatics of every stripe. Even though he wrote over three hundred years ago, Spinoza remains the most modern of the old philosophers. His hatred of irrationalism once again seems relevant in a world torn apart by religious and nationalist dissentions. In this one hour drama, Spinoza's philosophy is explained by exploring the turbulent times in which he lived.
