Summary:THIS PROGRAMME TELLS THE STORY OF THE DISCRIMINATION, EXPLOITATION AND REJECTION OF DISABLED PEOPLE IN THE WORLD OF WORK. THE TRAINING RECEIVED BY YOUNG MEN AND WOMEN IN INSTITUTIONS FOR DISABLED PEOPLE BEFORE THE LAST WAR PREPARED THEM FOR LOWLY ROLES IN SOCIETY. IT WAS ASSUMED THAT THEIR DISABILITIES MADE THEM INCAPABLE OF LEARNING ANYTHING BUT THE MOST BASIC MANUAL SKILLS. MANY BECAME UNEMPLOYED AND LIVED IN ABJECT POVERTY. HOWEVER DURING THE SECOND WORLD WAR HALF A MILLION DISABLED PEOPLE PLAYED A KEY ROLE WORKING ON THE HOME FRONT - BUT WHEN THE WAR WAS OVER THEY WERE AGAIN REJECTED AND PUSHED BACK INTO SHELTERED WORKSHOPS.
