- Title: Armistead Maupin's Tales Of The City
- Date: 19th October 1993
- Summary: Anna Madrigal organises a Christmas party to which she invites her 'family' at Barbary Lane. Mona goes to the Twinkle factory to find D'or's father, who turns out to be white. Presuming therefore that his wife must be black and D'or half-caste, she invites the two of them to dinner on Christmas Eve. Back at Barbary Lane, Mary Ann has a strange conversation with Norman. Her suspision sufficiently fuelled, she finds the key to his pentshack and breaks in, where she is horrified by what she finds. Edgar takes Anna to the Bohemian Grove, where they dance and talk in his cabin. Mary Ann meets Norman at the Legion of Honor and they walk across a golf-course where she tells him she has seen his pornographic 'Tender Tots' photographs and he reveals that he is a private investigator. Norman stumbles and falls off the edge of a cliff to his death. D'or's parents arrive for supper. Mona is speechless when she sees the colour of Mrs Wilson's skin - D'or dashes upstairs in hysterics. Eventually D'or explains to Mona how being black got her more modelling work. Mary Ann arrives back from her horrific experience with Norman and finds a file in his room market Anna Madrigal, which she burns immediately. We flash back to Anna and Edgar and hear her telling him she had a sex-change 12 years ago. Back at Barbary Lane, Anna walks out into the night and closes her eyes as we see Edgar lying on his deathbed. DeDe tells him she is pregnant - he asks her to call the baby 'Anna'. Mona joins Ann Madrigal outside and asks if she can move back in. It's New Year's Day. Mary Ann and Michael look out over the Golden Gate Bridge. She points to the spot where Norman fell to his death, and tells him who he really was. Anna Madrigal goes to the top of a nearby hill, where she lays a joint on Edgar's new grave.
