- Title: Resonances Keith Hellawell
- Date: 11th August 1992
- Summary: Rt Rev Dr David Jenkins talks to the Chief Constable of Cleveland, Keith Hellawe ll. Hellawell fascinates the Bish "you, as a policeman, see the very worst side of people yet you went on hoping and caring and thinking that there is something worthwhile here which we must never give up on" he says to Hellawell. The Bish sees him as something of an idealist, somebody who maintains that there is goodness in everybody. In the discussion it emerges that Hellawell's ideals, especially I his belief in search for truth have been severely tested "when you come face to face with someone like the Yorkshire Ripper expecting someone to tell you the truth about something as horrific as that.. you wonder what does it mean?" The Bish relates this to his own experience of seeking the truth "at the hart of what I'm supposed to believe is a suggestion that truth is pretty crucifying. But you have somehow got to go into the middle of it .."
