Focuses on life of brill but self- destructive alternative comedian, Johnny Lazar (American Tim Guinee). Possessed with frenetic explosive energy, his comedy is dangerous, black and sometimes goes over the edge, as it does when Johnny finally makes it on US top-rated "Joe Hardiman" show - he blows his big break. This and debts mean he jumps at chance of gig set up for him by new English manager Brian Duffield (Danny Webb) at trendy London Hot Spots Club. Audiences love him but world begins to fall apart when he witnesses murder of a London gangland boss.
