He was finishing the script for his next film `Ulysses' gaze', which would tell the story of a filmmaker returning to his hometown in Greece after a considerable absence in the United States for a retrospective of his work. The character uses the trip as an opportunity to pursue a personal obsession, to track down the missing reels of the first film footage ever shot in the Balkans - the work of Milton and Yanaki Manaki. His journey takes him from Greece, through Albania, Yugoslavia, Bulgaria and Romania ending in Sarajevo.

It is based on Homer's `Odyssey' and on the life and work of the first Balkan cinematographers, the two Manakis brothers.
