- Title: Over The Garden Wall The Shade
- Date: 15th July 1994
- Summary: In this programme we explore what can be done to brighten the dark spots in a garden by looking at how native flowers have evolved in the wild to grow in the connditions of woodland shade. Left to itself, the British countryside gradually reverts to forest, and some urban and suburban landscapes also provide habitats for plants that flourish in darker, more protected conditions like woodland. Over The Garden Wall visits four gardens in the north of England. Horticulturist Michael Myers grows anemones, and also in Yorkshire botanical artist and gardener Barbar Shaw holds a primula collection. Jackie Giles is developing a different kind of garden; half of it can be underwater for most of the winter, but nevretheless boasts a variety of Elizabethan primroses. And near Leeds, Mrs Arnold Rakusen's woodland garden is full of favourite shade-loving plants.
