- Title: The Politician's Wife
- Date: 30th May 1995
- Summary: Clive dies and Duncan uses his funeral to enlist the support of the Party's great and good. Flora manipulates the trust placed in her both by Duncan and Sir Donald Frazier to play one off against the other, telling Duncan that a bigger ministerial post is on offer if he resigns from the Ministry of the Family, and Sir Donald that Duncan is arrogantly refusing to resign unless he can have his pick of other Ministries. Flora's resolve is stiffened by her son's continued suffering as a result of his father's adultery. She tells Rosalind Clegg that Duncan had lied to the House about making repeated efforts to prevent the closure of the local nursery, and asks Jennifer Caird to meet her at a local hotel; she also reveals to the nursery campaigners that Duncan had no intention of turning Pangbourne Manor into a nursery. Her actions result in a cacophony of criticism from the local Conservative HQ, Parliament and of course the media, and the nail in Duncan's coffin comes when Jennifer is photographed arriving at the local hotel with the implication that the affair is still on. Knowing that he is finished, Duncan comes home to Flora but eventually realises that she has been the architect of his destruction. After a violent confrontation, Duncan walks out; but Flora's hidden agenda has yet to reach its zenith.
