- Title: Citizen 2000 Moving On Up
- Date: 28th January 1994
- Summary: MOVING ON UP The CITIZEN 2000 children have just turned 11, and last summer they faced their last days in primary schools all over Britain and the painful business of waiting for exam results or to get into their chosen secondary schools. This business of choice proved to be "a nightmare" for several of the parents. "If you've got the money, you've got the choice" is one verdict. "There's no choice at all. You take what you're given." We followed the children to their new schools, including a Secondary Modern in Belfast, a traditional fee-paying Independent in Croydon, the Comprehensive in Liverpool that John Lennon once attended, and the ultra-modern school just opened in Tower Hamlets with facilities to match a university where ANWAR, from Brick Lane, to his delight is learning French. And we follow them as they struggle to find their way around the corridors on that first day and come to terms with the end of irresponsible childhood.
- Description:Three further programmes touching on the lives of the children, with particular emphasis on education - both moral and formal. This is the year our children enter secondary school.
