- Title: The 3000 Mile Garden
- Date: 17th February 1995
- Summary: Eccentric gourmet gardeners Roger Phillips of Eccleston Square, London and Leslie Land of Maine continue their old fashioned exchange of letters from either side of the Atlantic, sharing both their triumphs and failures in and out of the garden. In this week's episode, the scorching August sun distracts both from work in the garden. Roger chooses to escape to the confines of his flat to put pen to paper (whilst maintaining a watchful eye on the test match on TV!) and Leslie, weary from dead-heading nicotianas and tying up tomatoes, decides to cool off au naturel under the primitive open-air shower nailed on the back of a shed in the garden! Roger, who successfully quashed plans to build an underground car park beneath his own territory Eccleston Square several years ago, finds himself offering advice to nearby residents of St George's Square, who are keen to make good use of the sit of an air raid shelter located in their square. This prompts Roger to tackle the wider issue of government funding to aid restoration of garden squares throughout London, leading to a meeting with his local MP Peter Brooke at the Palace of Westminster. Leslie, meanwhile attempts to take some photographs of her garden, but unhappy with the result decides to appeal to Roger for help, whose photography can be seen in numerous best selling horticultural reference books.
