- Title: High Interest 2: What Price Pensions?
- Date: 28th November 1993
- Summary: Can today's workers look forward to a miserable old age? John Plender investigates the Pensions industry and finds that none of the available pension options - state, company or personal - provide British workers with the guarantee of a financially secure retirement. The value of the state pension is being eroded as it fails to keep pace with living standards. Company pension schemes are subject to the control, not of the workers who pay into them, but of Boards of Directors who can raid them to increase profits. And much of the money that is paid into personal pension schemes goes on administration. Plender argues that none of these alternatives provides today's workers with a good deal for tomorrow's retirement.
