When night falls over Rusholme on the Wilmslow Road in Manchester, the cars come out to play. Every year, on the first sighting of the new moon after Ramadan, the time of fasting, Asian youth - not just Muslims - travel from around the country to Wilmslow Road to party. As the cars skid round traffic lights, the smell of burnt rubber mixes with the scents from the takeaways to produce this year's Eid scent. The police seal off the area, a DJ parks his car on the pavement and plays music while the cars dance to the rhythm, disorganised gangs play out street theatre, as the quietly `Rumble'. A habit formed by a small group of Asian youth has transformed itself into a modern pilgrimage.
