Description:A series of 3 documentaries which anatomise the language of leading international choreographers: New York based TRISHA BROWN,Englishman Richard Alston, and American director of the Frankfurt ballet,WILLIAM FORSYTHE. The aim of the series is to enter the world of these artists and to show that dance has as many styles as any other form of art. A new departure in the coverage of modern dance is the role of the director in these films: Here the brief is not simply to 'cover' the finished product, but to engage in a relationship with the choreographer,to probe, worry and explore. In each case, our directors,TIM ALBERY,MIKE FIGGIS,and MARK JAMES have a strong agenda - and reputation of their own. We want to get beneath the smooth surface of series like DANCE ON 4,or SUMMER DANCE and make dance films with ideas.
