MARGARET, DOROTHY, KATY, DENISE, GILLIAN AND SALLY HAVE HAD THEIR UPS AND DOWNS IN THE INTERVENING 12 YEARS. IN MANY WAYS, THEIR EXPERIENCES ARE THOSE OF EVERYWOMAN AS SHE APPROACHED HER FIFTH DECADE : GRANDMOTHERHOOD, DESERTION, UNEXPECTED FIRST LOVE AND THE INEVITABLE RESPONSIBILITIES OF AGEING PARENTS. THEY WERE A SPARKY BUNCH IN 1983, AND AGE HAS NOT WITHERED THEM, NOR THE YEARS CONDEMNED AND THE MESSAGE OF THE FILM IS ONE OF OPTIMISM AND HOPE.
