Girls over the age of eight are no longer permitted to go to school, and schools and hospitals have been emptied of female staff. The five days Saira spent disguised as an ordinary Afghan woman were both extremely dangerous and terrifying. She wore the all enveloping burqa, lived in safe houses and dodged Taliban checkpoints to discover the appalling truth that as a woman in Afghanistan you can be beaten up,imprisoned or killed for a crime you didn t even know you were committing.
