Title:Equinox: Climate Flip: The Day The Oceans Boiled
Date:10th January 2003
Summary:The programme examines new evidence that the expected rise in global temperature in the near future could be the start of a much greater increase. It is suggested the world temperature could rise by 20 degrees within the next three generations. The film follows scientists searching for the cause of the climate shifts that have happened within the planet's history as they travel from the Bad Lands of Wyoming to the Polar Ice Caps and the Amazon Rainforest. It looks at the last time the Earth's temperature rose so quickly - 50 million years ago. That caused many animals to shrink, with horses becoming the size of modern domestic cats. It took 60,000 years to cool down again.
Description:Palaeontologists believe our bad weather is indicative of a long-term change for the worse. With the latest climate models backing them, they believe that we are reaching the end of 10,000 years of climate stability.
