Description:This takes the development of the 2002 Royal Institution Christmas Lectures to a full commission. This year's lectures are called Smart Stuff. Their subject matter is modern materials, and the way our lives depend on them. Each lecture is built around a single popular or familiar object: a mobile phone,a training shoe,an elastoplast,an ice cream,a spider's web. The lectures are being delivered by Professor Anthony Ryan of the University of Sheffield.
