Edward had been experiencing paranoid delusions due to schizophrenia since his late teens so after a suicide attempt the family put him in a mental health hospital thinking he would be safe. After they left,however,Edward walked out of the hospital,got a train to Reading and then jumped from the top of the station car park. Joy is seeing a counsellor but is still finding it hard to accept her son's death as she blames herself for leaving him. Joy and her husband Nigel also meet Guy and Kathy Roderick,whose 27-year-old daughter Claire also committed suicide and suffered from schizophrenia.
