Title:RAW VIDEO: Spectacular Meteor Filmed Above North Queensland
Date:22nd May 2023
Description:Credit: Cairns Airport/Cover Images
The sky above north Queensland was lit up on Saturday night by a meteor that blazed into the atmosphere. This colour footage captured by a camera at Cairns airport showed the sky being lit up green and then orange after the meteor entered the atmosphere just after 9.22 pm local time on Saturday. The space rock was likely between 0.5 and 1 metre in size, travelling up to 150,000km per hour. The meteor would not have left a crater, as a meteor this size would have fragmented before reaching the surface. Its greenish colour was most likely caused by iron and nickel fragments in the rock.
