- Title: 424 Austria heavy rain
- Date: 3rd August 2020
- Description:Emergency services under pressure as Carinthia and Upper Austria are hard-hit by rain and floods Heavy rainfalls cause problems in some Austrian provinces, especially in Carinthia and upper Austria. Within just two hours, 200 emergency calls were registered and the firefighters could hardly keep up. The village of "Steindorf", lying on the east side of the lake Ossiachersee, is particularly affected by floods. In Upper Austria the situation is very similar. Heavy rains caused some flooding, especially hitting the town of Schärding. A civil defence alarm sounded in Scharding in the morning, and the rain hasn't stopped. Shotlist ***Please note natural sound on track 3 and 4*** Location: province of Carinthia, Steindorf , Ossiachersee lake - CU Car buried under stones - VS Aftermath, clearing stone and mud flooding near houses - SOUNDBITE (German) Stefan Frieser, local fire worker: This driver tried to get out of this situation, the mud came here and the car got stuck. We were able to save him right away. Unfortunately the car is inside under the mud masses, but it was recovered, unharmed - VOXPOP (German) Woman: "The whole mud came in and the water under our door, but we were so busy inside that we could get the whole mud out of the house, that we didn't even notice what was going on and what came down there - SOUNDBITE (German) Johann Gasser, local fire worker: "In the rest of the local area there are still numerous streams that run over the banks, there are problems on the mountain roads, some of which are not passable because there has been piling and clogging." Location: province of Upper Austria, town of Schärding - VS flooded area - VS installing flooding shields - VOXPOP (German)Woman: "With the rain, you could expect it to come back, and with the flood protection we hope that it won't get as far as in 2013." - VOXPOP (German) Man: "First of all, I walk here every day. And for a local, the flood is not very tragic. And what really interested me is the new flood protection sheeting, which I have never seen myself, which costs a lot of money, but is very good for Schärding so that flood protection prevents more damage."
