- Title: 349 AT Seisenbacher jail term
- Date: 18th June 2020
- Description:Two-time Olympic medalist Peter Seisenbacher has sexual abuse sentence reduced in appeal Former judo double olympic gold medalist Peter Seisenbacher, sentenced to five years jail term for sexually abusing two minors sees sentence reduced following appeal. After a brief deliberation, the judges' senate recognized that because of the lenghty procedure the sentence should be shortened by two months to now four years and ten months. Upon the revised judgement, Peter Seisenbacher left the court building without giving any comments.. At the height of his career, the judoky twice won the gold medal at the Olympic Games, first in Los Angeles in 1984 and four years later he repeated this success in Seoul. After those successes, he turned coach. After his crimes were revealed, he first fled Austria to Ukraine to avoid trial. In December, he was sentenced to five years' imprisonment at the Vienna Regional Court last December because in his active career as a coach he had abused two underage girls. According to the judicial findings, the once celebrated sport idol had physically harassed a child for the first time in 1997. The victim was nine years old at the time. From 1999 onwards there were sexual acts, which were repeated until the affected person was 14 years old. From summer 2004, the ex-judoka approached a 13-year-old girl, whom he also supervised as a trainer in the children's group in his Viennese judo club. Sexual acts also occurred with this girl. Previously, at a summer judo camp in August 2001, Seisenbacher had tried to get closer to a then 16-year-old. The 16-year-old fended off him, so this process was classified by the judiciary as an attempted abuse of an authority relationship. The fact that Seisenbacher fled to Ukraine three years ago and escaped his trial, which was originally scheduled for December 19, 2016 - Seisenbacher was only handed over to the Vienna judiciary in September 2019 - had no impact on the sentence. The first court had expressly emphasized this. Seisenbacher had celebrated his 60th birthday in March.
