- Title: 323 AT COVID-19 Hotel staff tests
- Date: 30th May 2020
- Description:Voluntary COVID-19 testing for hotels staff underway in Austrian hotels In Austria, hotels are allowed to reopen as of May 29th, right in time for this long week-end, the Pentecost holidays. In order to boost tourism again after the two and a half month Coronavirus lockdown and to win back the trust of the guests, tourism companies will receive special seals of approval if they have their employees tested for the Coronavirus once a week. The voluntary coronavirus-tests started today in five tourism model regions in Austria. The region around Lake Wörthersee (Woerthersee) in Carinthia is one of the first regions in which hotel employees can be tested voluntarily, primarily those that have direct guest contact. Austrian Tourism Minister Elisabeth Köstinger (People's Party) was also present during the first tests. 1100 employees from 500 tourism companies around Lake Wörthersee are to be tested in the coming weeks. The throat swabs are examined in a laboratory in Vienna and the results should be available within 48 hours. From July 1st, the COVID-19 tests are to be carried out on a large scale. A budget of millions is planned for this in Minister Köstinger's tourism department. But even a perfect summer season could not make up for the previous minus, tourism experts say. However, a balance will be made up in October.
