- Date: 19th April 2020
- Description:Austrian minister: "we could think in a few months" about tourism and develop a concept For the first time in a long time, fewer than 100 new infections of COVID-19 were registered in Austria on Sunday - for the Federal Government this is a positive sign and a continuation of the positive trend. Austrian minister for tourism, Elisabeth Köstinger (OeVP people`s party) thinks about border-crossing tourism "in a few months". The minister says that if countries like Germany are still on the right track, bilateral agreements can be reached - to open the borders to holidaymakers. Shotlist - SOUNDBITE (GERMAN) Elisabeth Köstinger, Austrian minister for tourism: “Basically, we see that the number of new infections in Austria is very positive. We are now considering future concepts of how a gradual, step-by-step, slow restart of tourism, the leisure industry and gastronomy can work. If the numbers remain similarly positive - also in neighboring countries - we could think in a few months about how tourism would be possible despite the restrictions, and develop a concept.” - Cutaways - SOUNDBITE (GERMAN) Elisabeth Köstinger, Austrian minister for tourism: “In principle, Germany, like Austria, is on the right track. And of course that is the prerequisite for thinking about opening a border in months. We are generally in very close coordination with our neighboring countries. We all have similar concepts in curbing the coronavirus and we are also trying to do a similar thing with a gradual restart of tourism, the leisure industry and gastronomy.”
