- Title: 199 AT COVID-19 Testing preps
- Date: 3rd April 2020
- Description:Preparations in Styria for COVID-19 antibody tests The Institute for Hospital Hygiene and Microbiology in Graz is one of the main Styrian laboratories for coronavirus tests. Not only are the so-called PCR (polymerase chain reaction) tests of suspected cases analyzed here, but in the past few days the preparations for the much-anticipated antibody tests have also begun here. Next week the laboratory wants to start with the antibody tests. The antibody tests are another important step in the fight against the novel corona pathogen, because it enables to see how many people have had the virus without even realizing it. To contain the virus, the Austrian government`s ambitious goal is 15,000 coronavirus tests per day. Austria is currently still a long way from achieving this goal. Of the so-called PCR tests that can be used to confirm COVID-19 infections, just almost 4,000 tests are currently carried out every day, because the laboratories lack chemical raw materials. In Styria, about 500-600 tests per day were carried out recently. We have placed an order for 10,000 tests. We have received the first deliveries and hope to be supplied with them continuously.” - Analyzing of PCR-tests in laboratory - SOUNDBITE 2 (GERMAN) Klaus Vander, Institute for Hospital Hygiene and Microbiology in Graz: “There must be an exit scenario. That means we have to be able to return to normality at some point. And to be able to ensure this normality again, we need to know what proportion of the population has already gone through the disease and may have antibodies and is therefore immune.” - C/U PCR-test - C/U throat swap is done - VS Analyzing of PCR-tests in laboratory
