- Date: 28th March 2020
- Description:Some 65 ORF news staff members work and live during two weeks in isolated zone Closed isolation areas have been set up for 65 employees at the ORF headquarter. They will live and work there for two weeks. These measures are unique in the history of the ORF. The aim is to prevent infections and, in an emergency, to maintain TV, radio and online programs. On Tuesday 24th of March at the ORF centre in Vienna the 14-day service began for four anchors of the TV news program “Zeit im Bild” and 61 other ORF2 employees (journalists, technicians, administration, make-up artists etc). Two weeks in which they will not leave the ORF. At the ORF center a cordoned-off zone was established to guarantee the broadcasting of news programs, offices were converted into bedrooms, beds were screwed together in night shifts. A garden area for getting fresh air is available and shared showers for personal hygiene. To prevent infection, all people in the isolation area were examined by the company doctor before entering. No one was corona positive. Everyone still has to take his temperature three times a day. The program of the ORF information is running as usual for the TV watcher at home, although not everything is as usual. None of the ORF staff members (242 staff members in all ORF isolation areas throughout Austria including the 65 at the ORF center in Vienna and those in the regional studios) has yet broken off their stay. However, everyone is free to leave if he or she wants to.
