- Title: 176 AT COVID-19 Keep measures
- Date: 27th March 2020
- Description:Measures in Austria seem to indicate slower increase rate of infections, says Health Minister Health Minister Rudolf Anschober says the main aim is to have enough capacities at the hospitals for corona patients. The measures are set to reduce the increase of infections, so far the figures show the measures the Austrian government has set are working, but it is still too early to give any information about a lifting of some measures. Anschober also said the tests for antibodies will be started in a wider range as they will give a hint about the immunity of the society. Interior Minister asked the people to keep the measures and to continue and thanked all them following the rules. There are still some people who do not cooperate, and the police will be more present on the streets, and fines will be given up to 3600 euros for people not following the rules. People endanger the life of others can also face prosecution. Shotlist - Arrival for presser - SOUNDBITE (GERMAN) Rudolf Anschober, Health Minister: "Our aim is it to reduce the increase rate step by step, two weeks ago, we had 30 to 40 percent increase, the aim was to get 20 percent, today we reached that, below 20 percent. This shows the measures are working this is a sign of hope for the public. If we take measures the have positive effect, but it is far too early to set any positive signal. We are still not in reach of our aims; we need to get as low as one-digit increase after Easter, to be stable in the increase. - 01:08:21 SOUNDBITE (GERMAN) Rudolf Anschober, Health Minister: antibodies tests do not tell us that you are sick, they tell have you have had an infection at any time, and you have in your blood the antibodies. So this is good and bad news at the same time because it tells you that you have had this illness, perhaps you never had any symptoms and therefore you did not consult any doctor. And therefore the question what is the estimated number of unreported cases, how many people of the public have these antibodies, and are therefore immunized, this is the positive part. Because we know a herd immunity in a society occurs at 60 - 65 percent, the larger this percentage of immunized people is the better it is. - 02.29.03 SOUNDBITE (GERMAN) Karl Nehammer, Interior Minister: We see, that the majority of Austrians follow the rules exemplary. And now our appeal to everybody please keep it that way. - 02.29.03 SOUNDBITE (GERMAN) Karl Nehammer, Interior Minister: the local district authorities punish here very consistently, 3600 Euros of fines for individuals, 30.000 Euros for people opening their bars, these are only a few. And if you endanger another person, a prosecution could follow.
