- Title: 150 Austria public alert via SMS
- Date: 20th March 2020
- Description:Austrian government to send public warnings to population via sms The government today passed an amendment to the Telecommunications Act. In the event of a crisis, there is now the option of warning the population - via SMS. These warnings can be sent both Austria-wide and locally in an affected area. Telecommunications providers are required to send end users public warnings of impending or spreading major emergencies or disasters via SMS. Every cell phone logs into a cell phone mast. If the warning is issued in a specific region, all cell phone owners logged in there will receive this information by SMS. The amendment applies immediately. For the time being, however, it is limited until the end of the year.
