- Title: 127 AT Tyrol response

- Description:Tyrol authorities reject criticism of their COVID-19 crisis management Tyrol authorities, Governor Guenther Platter and the health representative of the local government, Bernhard Tilg, rejects criticism on the crisis management in connection with COVID19 spread in Ischgl, a popular ski resort in Tyrol. A man working as a bar keeper in Ischgl tested positive on COVID-19 on March 7th but the bar was not immediately closed. Icelandic Health authorities set Ischgl on the list of regions with risk already March 5th, but in Tyrol no immediate measures were taken. Asked about this criticism in the TV bulletin ZIB2, Mr. Tilg (health representative of the local government) said the authorities took the correct measures and did not react too late. Also the Governor of Tyrol Guenter Platter sees no failure; he said the tourists have been informed to leave and go straight to their home countries, and put themselves in quarantine. Authorities expect people to cooperate and stick to instructions, as Tyrol does not have capacity to have police control all this. Many tourists stayed in Innsbruck for one night after they left Ischgl, to take the flight the next day, and therefore possibly further spreading the virus. There are over 300 cases in Tyrol who have tested positive on the coronavirus with the two main hotspots being Ischgl in the Paznaun Valley and St. Anton am Arlberg. If this individual responsibility is not taken, and if the guests who should have transit directly have taken accommodation, that is their responsibility, we cannot put police everywhere." - SOUNDBITE (German) Bernhard Tilg, responsible for health issues, in the local government of Tyrol: "The authorities have set the correct measures on March 6th, the authorities have been in Ischgl, have contacted the personal contacts of the guests from Iceland, (they) have tested and worked through the procedure. " -QUESTION (German) by Anchorman Armin Wolf (German):" On March 8th the local medical service has declared it is unlikely that the virus could be spread in the bar. now we have to stay in distance of 1 meter to each other. What an idea, that you could not get this inside a bar. In these bars the people stick to each other." - SOUNDBITE (German) Bernhard Tilg: "As I already said, the local authorities started their work on March 6th, the test procedure and on March 7th continued it. And then all measures have been set, and then finally the bar “Kitzloch” has been closed." - 02.26 SOUNDBITE(German) Bernhard Tilg: "But, yes this has been tested and checked on these two days, and the suspicion has been confirmed, and this was finally followed by the closure of the "Kitzloch"." - QUESTION (German); "So this was wrong?" (overlayed by Interview) -SOUNDBITE (German) Bernhard Tilg: "Well, no the procedure of the authority was basically correct, and this was followed by the closure of the après ski bar." - QUESTION (German) by Anchor Armin Wolf: "Now many people say the lobby of the tourism industry has won over the medical advice and rationality?" - SOUNDBITE (German) Bernhard Tilg: "No, this is not correct. In the last three weeks we have set measures, every hour and every day. We have been the first province which have set measures like quarantine of buildings, closure of universities, and finally the end of the winter season. We are the province which have developed measures consistently, also in the valley of Paznaun and St. Anton. I think the authorities acted correctly."
