- Title: 91 Austria COVID-19 schools
- Date: 12th March 2020
- Description:Schools in Austria set to close next week On Monday all kids in Austria aged over 14 years, in the upper classes, should stay at home. From Wednesday on, all kids under 14 years are also added to this list, wherever possible. These are 411.000 kids in Austria aged over 14 years. There are 350.000 kids at primary school, aged from 6 to 10 and 340.000 kids in lower grade school, aged from 10 to 14. Should there be no possibility to look after the kids at home, then parents can bring the younger than 14 years old kids to the school and there will be taken care of them. But there will be no normal lessons and the government encourages as many kids as possible to stay at home! In particular, the Austrian government has stressed that children should not be brought to the grandparents to avoid the risk of further contaminating them. Schools remain closed until Easter Holidays at the beginning of April. In addition it was reported that schools are making preparations to continue classes via e-learning for the older kids. It is foreseen that younger classes will get papers for homework.
