- Title: Breakthrough Brits 2019: Writer Kayleigh Llewellyn (dnxhd - clean - mixed)
- Date: 1st January 1970
- Summary: Breakthrough Brits
- Description:Writer Kayleigh Llewellyn | Breakthrough Brits 2019 As a child, Kayleigh would turn on French & Saunders or Victoria Wood and watch in awe as her comedy heroes elicited cheers, laughter and applause from their audience, and knew she wanted to work in that world. She has been fortunate though, to straddle two worlds; as a scriptwriter by day, she writes alone and overthinks every word, but by night, she is part of an improv group performing with her best friends, where there is no such thing as a mistake. Her pilot, In My Skin (BBC3 / BBC Wales), won Best Drama and Best Actress at this year's BAFTA Cymru awards. The full series is in production now and is set to air in spring 2020. It's a very personal project for Kayleigh, as it's based on her own experiences as a schoolgirl in Cardiff, dealing with a parent with mental health issues. And although writing it made her feel exposed and vulnerable, she hopes that it will help others in a similar position. Beyond this, she is working on a project with screenwriter, Abi Morgan, called 355 Days - again about her personal experiences of loss, but also about hope and resilience. Kayleigh is also currently writing a film for BBC1, Love & Glory, based on the real life story of hockey players, Kate and Helen Richardson-Walsh - the first same sex couple to win a medal together at an Olympic games. Kayleigh says, ?Being a Breakthrough Brit means validation! It?s so wonderful to have BAFTA tap you on the shoulder and say, ?we think you?re doing well?. It makes me feel really proud and excited. And I think any opportunity to meet other people who are in the same industry as me will be so useful.?
