- Description:12:30:47 - A01. HRN-2951 In: 12.30.47 Out: 12.31.34 Sound Bite: Mickey Rourke movie being hard to make Sure we uh, it was hard enough getting this movie made with me, Darren fought very hard to get me, you know for me to be in the movie and then there was the issue of how much money (talks) we didnt have much money to shoot this movie and Darren choose a certain way uh with a handheld camera and a very subjective documentary style way and we were rolling the dice you know. (talks) We didnt even know, we werent even thinking about being great we were thinking about, could we afford to feed the crew. Uh we didnt even have chairs like this, there was not one chair like this on the set. 12:31:35 - A02. HRN-2951 In: 12.31.35 Out: 12.33.09 Sound Bite: Mickey Rourke thoughts on film after I feel glad that Im sitting in a chair like this. Im very grateful, Im very happy about the way things turned out. We were uhm we were really, we didnt have a distributor when we went to Venice and uh and there were, there were some real expensive movies there you know and there was some good competition there. And you know we went to Venice and you know we kicked ass in Toronto (talks) and Darren and I were looking at each other like a little bit, we knew we had something special after about 6 days of working, together on, you know what was happening with everything. And I knew the work I put into changing my body and then the scenes were happening with Evan Rachel Wood and I and everything was flowing really special and Darren directs you in a way where its like you go God Damn am I so lucky to have this man, this talented man uh directing me at this moment. Im going, cause when the movie was over, I I the thing I regretted the most, and was afraid of the most is who am I going to work with next? Im not going to work with another Darren Aronofsky so (talks) Well is stared doing another movie and I carefully chose somebody that had has the same integrity, has similar uh thats, that relentlessly pursues perfection and surrounds you with other capable actors. 12:33:16 - A03. HRN-2951 In: 12.33.16 Out: 12.33.50 Sound Bite: Mickey Rourke did you observe wrestlers? No not really, I kind of based my character on a dude that rode motorcycles and pumped iron down in Venice Beach he did 20 something years ago that my kid brother was friends with and he had a hearing aid and he couldnt hear most of the time and yet he was in the gym at 7 oclock in the morning and he lived in a, he lived in a bus behind the gym and he had his blender and everything and he took his showers in the gym because he didnt have a place to live. So I kind of based the look and everything else on this one guy. 12:33:56 - A04. HRN-2951 In: 12.33.56 Out: 12.34.33 Sound Bite: Mickey Rourke Well he loves it, he loves what he does and hes not ready to stop doing that, and ?. (talks) oh absolutely theres so many parts, theres so many shameful parts of him that its kind embarrassing for me to watch. I havent watched the movie and nor will I watch it for a couple of years probably uh and then theres the part of him that he works very hard trying to keep himself maintained and keep himself in the game you know and the game doesnt want him anymore.
