- Description:05:24:58 - A01. HRN-1480 In: 05.24.58 Out: 05.25.34 Sound Bite: Jodie Foster - genre Yeah its a psychological drama I think its a very sophisticated movie that leads you to go off and have to talk to people afterwards you know theres a lot to work out in the film and yet you know it does live in an unsophisticated genre it lives in you know with references to you know perhaps a vigilante movie that you might have seen or you know I dont know a western so there is the primal quality to it theres a tone to it a primal quality to it I mean people do cheer in the audience you know strange thing because theyre really with the character in a way that comes from the gut but its also a thinking mans film 05:25:48 - A02. HRN-1480 In: 05.25.48 Out: 05.26.42 Sound Bite: Jodie Foster political correctness Well perhaps not politically correct yeah probably isnt but you know the best movie experience you can have is to sit inside the characters skin and thats what we look for thats what we long for the real perspective and real point of view the characters subjective point of view and this is that kind of movie that lives in the 1970s you know like taxi driver or straw dogs where we are faced with an anti-hero somebody who in some ways is affirming life becoming who they are being in touch with something terribly primal but its also ugly and horrifying and um but its human and its true and I mean I think thats its a sophisticated you know you have to be a sophisticated watcher I think probably to get that message out of it and you know if the only message you get out of it is yeah then I dont know Im not saying we did a bad thing because the film exsists on that level too 05:27:03 - A03. HRN-1480 In: 05.27.03 Out: 05.27.37 Sound Bite: Jodie Foster seeks out vigalanteness Yes and um its not a coincidence that she has spent 40 years of her life never running into violence and then suddenly she runs into violence and then suddenly she runs into violence in pretty much every single day until the end of the movie yeah she seeks it out and theres something about holding a gun inm your pocket knowing that its there having it be your friend that gives you the kind of power to go places that you never would have gone before and that power is deadly you know its the power to say I live you die um its a breath of life and its a breath of death at the same time 05:27:39 - A04. HRN-1480 In: 05.27.39 Out: 05.27.48 Sound Bite: Jodie Foster gun control Maybe listen I think its a great movie for gun control dont ever buy a gun what ever you do dont ever buy a gun Ill tell you that right now dont buy a gun 05:27:53 - A05. HRN-1480 In: 05.27.53 Out: 04.15.12 Sound Bite: Jodie Foster No she becomes a stranger and she becomes somebody that she doesnt recognize and somebody who you know the fear and rage that lives underneath our skin that we never even knew we had its also kind of an emblem of post 9/11 America post 9/11 New York you know we live in the safest big city in the world where Disney land time square is Disney land and theres a cop on every corner and why is it that I feel fear why am I afraid what am I afraid of and maybe that fear isnt based in reality maybe its just part of our skin you know maybe its part of our DNA as Americans
